‘Sabarmati Ke Sant’ event to promote Guj in Hong Kong

SURAT: Gujarati diamantaires and the Indian diaspora settled in Hong Kong will converge in huge numbers at an event titled 'Sabarmati Ke Sant'- Journey through incredible India' as part of Diwali celebrations on October 20.

The event organized by Hong Kong-based Sarjan group, a body formed by Gujarati diamantaires and businessmen, is aimed at promoting Gujarat in particular and India in general as a tourist destination for NRIs and other foreigners.

The HK-based group got the inspiration to hold the event based on 'Sabarmati Ke Sant' theme organized during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Ahmedabad in 2015.

Last year during Diwali, the group had organized 'Passage to Gujarat'— the biggest ever multimedia event — to project Gujarat as tourism destination among the people in Hong Kong.

The 90-minute multimedia show was presented on the 13x40-ft-long LED wall, where the important destinations of Gujarat, including cultural, historic, religious, tourists attractions etc.

This time the group has planned the Sabarmati Ke Sant — A journey to Incredible India in a different way. The event is supported by the central and the state governments where the multimedia screening will be held at the Hong Kong's biggest luxurious hotel. An event book will be published containing lot of information about Indian tourism and Mahatma Gandhi.

Talking to TOI over phone from Hong Kong, Vijay Sheth of Sarjan Group said, "This is first time that a private group has organized such an event to promote Gujarat and India in the foreign land. All the event expense will be borne by the group and it is supported by the central and state government."

Over 900 people from different walks of life in Hong Kong have been invited for the show," Sheth said.
